5 movie characters that scare the shit out of kids.

We all have those times when were were young, when we watched something we shouldn’t have, or just weren’t ready for.

You were young, brash and cocky. Probably trying to impress an older sibling or cousin. You took it on and paid the price.

In the 80’s and 90’s especially this seemed to happen all the time, some of the things I watched? I can’t even fathom how the hell I came to be sitting in front of them. Where were my parents?!

Although there are clearly more brutal things out there, these are some of the characters that stood out for me…..

And with out a doubt in the world, they will still scare the shit out of your kids.

A Little Something.

We are always speeding along our life paths, forever striving for more, striving for….something

Something meaningful, something shiny, something new, something to impress others, something that will validate our existence.

This is the road that is never ending.

Many of us live this life, in fact all of us do to some extend, even when we try to pry ourselves away from it. It is life in the machine and the machine wants your money.

In return, it’ll give you a little something.

Today while playing Magic: The Gathering on PS3. [random ‘quick capsule’ review 4\5]

Aayla: “Look daddy, that’s a Bear!”

Dad: “Thats right, it’s a Runeclaw Bear to be exact, I’ve also cast ‘Giant Growth’ on him to increase his attack and strength by 3.”

Aayla: “ummm…Pooh Bear?”

Dad: “No, it’s not……[she looks up at me with big eyes]…….ugh……yes, it’s Pooh bear.”

Aayla: “YAY!”

Rainy Day Movies

Considering the nature of this blog and the thought process behind it, the universe couldn’t have picked a better time for a cold, rainy weekend.

I’ve spent the whole weekend rugged up watching movies and playing games with the family.

Recently, I downloaded a whole ton of old school kids movies to show my daughter. We’ve got plenty of the new ones and they’re cool, but, I didn’t want the great kids films of times past to be lost to her.

I’ve tried a few out, some were successful, some not. I have to admit, as good as some of the old stories are, it’s difficult to compete with the visual smorgas board the likes of Finding Nemo and Toy Story throw at you (These seem to be her Favorites).

Alas, with no further adieu, I present my top 5 old school kids movies that are tolerable to the youth of today (And yes, these will be skewed towards girls)

The Kids vs. The Biz

I work a pretty hectic schedule.

When I leave home in the morning, its dark. When I return home at night, Its dark.

This scenario will seem very familiar to a lot of you because it probably resembles how you spend the waking hours of your day.

I see my daughter, if I’m not in a coma, for about 15 mins in the morning as I stumble around around getting dressed and finding my keys, then about an hour and a half before she goes to bed when I return home.

Is this enough? The short answer……..is no.

I find myself at a crossroads in my life.

Introductions.

Where to start?

When I found out I was going to be a dad, I freaked out.

I was a 25 year old boy going on 17 without a care in the world, I mean, ten minutes prior to this news my biggest worry was….’I must get better at Halo’, as I’d just received an ass kicking from my buddy next door. I’m a PS3 guy after all.

Then, like being on the receiving end of an epic teabag, I couldn’t speak, reeling back in utter helplessness.
